REST STOPS ACROSS AMERICA

Today's top Rest Stop is the New Mexico Visitor Center Rest Stop. You come upon it a short while after you cross over the New Mexico Stateline from Arizona. There were many people there to answer questions and sell goods in the gift shop and also give away free tourist guides and maps. It was clean and welcoming. They even had free coffee for all who came in. The only thing I am not sure about is if it is open 24hrs since the bathrooms are within the Visitor Center. It is a historical site and has beautiful scenery, so it is well worth the stop.

We also stopped at a place called Fort Courage. Here is a pic of my mom in the doorway of the round house in front of the water tower. There are also two outlook towers over to the right that didn't make it in this pic. I don't know if this is a real historic site, but it is fun to imagine that it was. There is a small convenience store and a big gift shop and restrooms. The last time the Chevron gas station was open at that location was when gas prices were $1.79. It is in a area called Houck, New Mexico.

Just so you know, New Mexico is so beautiful and I am glad we drove through it during the day.
